There's a YouTube review covering the deluxe room and breakfast. The catch is price. $78 sits in Daegu's top 7%, and as you'll see below, pick the wrong booking site here and you pay $41 more.

Dinner. Restaurant density is lower than Dongseongno but quality holds. 92.9% sits at or below $69. Only 3 of 212 properties cost more than $103. Arrive with the instincts you'd use to pick a $140–200 hotel in Seoul or Jeju and you'll conclude there's nothing to choose from — not because Daegu lacks good places, but because the market doesn't extend that high.

Two conclusions follow.

First, there's little reason to drop below $34. The $34–69 band averages 8.78 against 8.56 for under $34. A $15–20 difference visibly changes satisfaction. Booking Sites Rate the Same Hotel Differently

The widest gap in this analysis wasn't between hotels. It was between booking sites for the same hotel.

The pattern is consistent. Korean domestic booking sites score the same hotel more generously, and the gap widens the worse the hotel is. UH Flat, which genuinely reviews well, moves within 0.7 points across sites. Laonzena swings 2.2.

The practical rule: judging Daegu hotels on domestic-site ratings alone gives you a field of 9s with no separation. You need Agoda or Booking.com scores alongside to see which 9 is real. Conversely, when a hotel drops into the 7s on Booking.com, ignore the domestic 9.

The price gaps are bigger still.

Pick the wrong site for UH Flat and you pay $60 extra. In Daegu, $60 buys another night. Note the rule isn't "Yanolja is always cheapest" — for Laonzena, Yanolja was the most expensive. The cheapest site differs by hotel, with no discernible pattern. In Busan the conclusion was the same: choose the booking site before the hotel. In Daegu the spread is wider.

Stay anywhere in Dongseongno and you'll find three or four places rated 4.7+ within a 300m radius. That's the real reason 47 hotels cluster there. Suseong Lake and the western district have narrower options, so plan dinner in advance.

Honestly: Avoid These

New Grand Hotel (Agoda ★7.8 | Booking.com ★6.5 | from ~$27/night). The name is the trap. A Canadian guest wrote that it says hotel but is clearly a motel, and a Hong Kong guest noted there's no reception area, only a window. Booking.com's 6.5 is the bottom of the pack among Daegu's major properties. Book on Yanolja's 8.6 alone and you'll get something other than what you pictured. The location right by Daegu Station is genuine, so at $27 for a place to sleep before a ballgame, it does its job. Expect more and you'll be disappointed.

Eldis Regent Hotel (Agoda ★8.3 | 6,904 reviews | from ~$80/night). Second-highest review count in Daegu, but the rating won't climb past 8.3, and Expedia has it at 7.8. Read the reviews and the recurring subject isn't the rooms, it's the front desk. Several guests report inadequate check-in guidance, and one described it as somewhere between a motel and a hotel. The location is good — Seomun Market, Banwoldang and Dongseongno are all walkable. But $80 is the top 6% of Daegu pricing, and for that money Rivertain Hotel is $16 cheaper with a rating 0.7 higher.

Hotel Laonzena (Agoda ★7.9 | Booking.com ★7.4 | from ~$83/night). The largest cross-site gap in this analysis. Yanolja's 9.6 and Booking.com's 7.4 describe the same building. A YouTube review is titled, roughly, "great location, condition not so much" — which lines up exactly with our data. It doesn't earn $83. That said, it draws long-stay demand tied to the Suseong-gu cram school district, so if your purpose isn't travel the math changes.

Daegu Marriott Hotel (Agoda ★8.8 | from ~$182/night) isn't a warning so much as a recalibration. It's the only property in Daegu in the $180 range, and there are reviews praising the pool's water quality. But recent reviews include a security complaint about a key card that opened a different room, and a report of debris in the bedding. $182 is more than triple Daegu's average nightly rate. Unless the brand and the station access clearly justify that, UH Flat Signature Daegu in the same district is $61 with a 9.0.

One last thing. Daegu has an unusual number of properties rated 9.5 and above — and many of them have fewer than 100 reviews or single-digit trip-type samples. Check the review count before you book on a 9.8. That was the same conclusion when we re-ranked Jeju hotels by family scores. A perfect score on a thin sample isn't a perfect score.
